The residency program is open for visual artists of all disciplines, as well as for other creative fields such as film, theater, literature, architecture, sound, design, and music. We especially encourage applications that seek to pursue interdisciplinary approaches at the interfaces of art, theatre, science/theory, media and technology.
Applications are open to individual artists and/or artists’ collectives from Germany and abroad. There is no age restriction. It is compulsory to stay at the residence during the three-month residency. Short-term absences are possible. Arrival and departure should be +/- one day of the chosen residency period.
By participating in the residency program, the guest artists agree to participate in three public events of the SCHIESSLHAUS AiR program: the Jour Fixe (project presentations, networking event, workshop), the Kollnburg Art Sunday (Open Studio Day) and the final exhibition (group show at the end of the residency period).
In addition, the participation in the residency program requires a short report on the residency experience either in written form, in the form of a photo album, a video/audio documentation or similar.
The residency program takes place in the monument award-winning "Schießl-Haus" in Kollnburg. During the three-month residency at SCHIESSLHAUS AiR, the guest artists are provided with living, working and exhibition spaces. The guests form a residential community in which each artist has a private room. The artists in residence are supervised by the artistic directors of the SCHIESSLHAUS AIR. For everyday concerns there is a direct contact person on site.
The modern and functional furnishings of the artists’ residence create optimal living and working conditions. On the first floor of the artists’ residence are the common areas: a cozy living room with a wood-burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen with a seating area, a storage room, and two sanitary rooms (bathroom and toilet). The upper floor is divided into three spacious individual rooms. The light-flooded, shared studio (approx. 22 sqm) is also located on the upper floor. Additionally, the individual private rooms can be used as workrooms.
On the awarding of the residency grants decides a jury consisting of the artistic direction of the SCHIESSLHAUS AiR, the First Mayor of the Municipality of Kollnburg and 2-3 representatives of our cooperation partners and board of advisors.
Criteria for the awarding of the residency grants are the quality and professionalism of the previous artistic work, the project proposal and an international/interdisciplinary occupancy of the artists’ residence.
A special feature of the selection process and the awarding of SCHIESSLHAUS AIR resident is the nomination of an artist by the applying artists. The nomination procedure will be carried out up to a maximum number of 100 applications. After the application deadline, the applicants are involved in the selection process by being given the opportunity to nominate an artist for the residency. For this purpose, all applicants who have agreed to participate in the nomination process will receive an e-mail notification after the application deadline with the information „first and last name, discipline and website“ of those artists who have also agreed to the nomination process, and can subsequently select a favorite and send the proposal by e-mail to the artistic directors of SCHIESSLHAUS AiR.
The nomination is representative of the applying artists and counts as one vote within the jury. The election decision is known only to the artistic directors of SCHIESSLHAUS AiR to represent the vote within the jury; it will not be disclosed to third parties or published. Candidacy and participation in the election are voluntary and will only take place after the written consent of the applicant(s). Non-participation in the election has no consequences for the current application process.
